Major Projects
|
Our production capabilities, experience, systems and high standards continue to be reflected in our successful completion of work on many major construction projects. In addition to structural engineering, our team and facilities enable us to complete work on large general engineering projects such as silos. Feature Projects:
Adidas Institute of Rugby; Massey University, Palmerston North The $6 million Adidas Institute of Rugby, at Massey University's Palmerston North campus,is a world-class facility resulting from nine months of intensive 'fast-track' construction. The building is notable for its innovative roof structure which abstractly captures the image of the silver fern logo. Stevensons Structural Engineers were major players in this development, using 150 tonnes of structural steel and metalwork to make the massive curved portals to give the building its distinctive shape. This project reflects our capabilities, experience and ability to form part of a successful project team. Our abilities as a 'one-stop-shop' were also highlighted in supplying items such as external stairs and even three sets of goal posts. Next Project______ UCOL (Formerly the Manawatu Polytechnic); Palmerston North The Universal College of Learning (UCOL) opened the doors to its state-of-the-art Palmerston North city campus in 1999. The campus development included the construction of four new buildings and the renovation of three others. Stevensons Structural Engineers were entrusted with the fabrication and erection of some 250 tonnes of structural steel for this 'fast-track' project. This included a four storey lift-shaft, weighing 8 tonnes, and other units up to 24 metres in length which we fabricated at our Tokomaru facility. All items were zinc-arc sprayed in-house at Tokomaru. Next Project______ Wellington International Airport Terminal; Wellington The $ 90 million terminal area development at Wellington International Airport is a dramatic change from the makeshift and cramped facilities used for the past 40 years. Starting in 1997, Stevensons Structural Engineers have fabricated and erected 150 tonnes of steel for the project. The main terminal features an open free-spanning room structure with large steel bracing members featured in glazed walls on each side of the building. Although this project included unique challenges such as working amidst a fully operational airport, the Main Terminal building structural component was finished six weeks ahead of a tight programme. This enabled advancement of other construction activities and an overall improvement to the mid-1999 completion date. General EngineeringWe often complete a range of general engineering and metalwork items as part of our structural projects, and are happy to help with small one-off projects. Our resources are also very well suited to larger scale engineering projects such as silos, tanks and a variety of staircases. Silos & Tanks
